Using makeup products indeed makes anyone look beautiful. But we never go deep into thinking how makeup products affect our skin. Research has been widely conducted to find out the side-effects of using cosmetics and makeup products.
Notably, according to experts, cosmetic products contain chemicals that have potential to affect our hormones. Surprisingly, the chemicals present in the cosmetics and beauty products can adversely affect reproductive system of women. Some of the cosmetic products including nail polish, anti-aging creams, hair sprays, anti-bacterial soaps, and perfumes have a severe effect on female fertility due to the toxic chemicals present in them.
According to Dr. Nitasha Gupta, Gynaecologist and IVF Specialist, Indira IVF Hospital, New Delhi, several endocrine disrupting chemicals have been identified to affect abnormal ovarian function, miscarriages and female infertility in recent years. In fact, an antibacterial soap can also kill your chances of conceiving as it contains chemical triclosan which is linked to the endocrine disruption that messes up with your hormones and interferes with the reproductive system, IndiaTVNews reported.
Parabens are a type of preservative that is used in making soaps, shampoos, and conditioner to prevent the growth of bacteria. But too much of it can have an impact on fertility. “When hormones are out of balance, the chances of creating healthy eggs or healthy sperm is reduced,” Dr. Gupta added.
Nail polish contains many volatile organic compounds including formaldehyde, Phthalate like dibutyl Phthalate (DPT) and toluene. These chemicals pose a high risk to cause fertility issues, misconception, and even birth defects. So, women who polish their nails very frequently are at a greater concern in terms of facing fertility issues.
Dr. Gupta warned that exposure to such chemicals might put anyone at higher risk of miscarriage and also cause physical and mental birth defects in the baby. The defects may include preterm birth, learning problems and cognitive impairment, behavioral issues and even damage to the kidney, brain and the nervous system.
